The Palmetto Cruisers Chapter of MTOA will be holding a boat/drive in meet in Georgetown, SC on August 17th, 18th and 19th. (All MTOA members who would like to join us are welcome!)

We will be having a special group tour of Hobcaw Barony in Georgetown on Saturday August 18th.

About Hobcaw Barony

For those not familiar with it, Hobcaw Barony is in Georgetown South Carolina, just across Winyah Bay from Georgetown Harbor. The Barony is a 16,000 acre tract and was owned by Bernard M Baruch and was established in 1905 when he purchased old plantations and put together the property.

Bernard Baruch was an investor, philanthropist and presidential advisor. The Hobcaw House on the property entertained many historic figures including Winston Churchill, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Ralph Pulitzer, Robert Taft and others.

His daughter Belle (an eccentric character) took over the property and in 1964 and established a foundation to keep most of the property undeveloped. You can read more at http://www.HobcawBarony.org .

The Barony operates a tour (using a small bus so there is minimal walking) of the house, part of the grounds and a slave village. Friends of ours, Karen and Stu Slifkin, are tour guides at Hobcaw and have graciously agreed to give us a "special extended" tour.  Cost for the tour is $20 per person.

In addition, we have some free passes to Brookgreen Gardens (http://www.Brookgreen.org) for Sunday the 19th for anyone who would like to spend a day at Brookgreen and will arrange transportation for those boating in.

Boating In:

We have requested space from Harborwalk Marina in Georgetown Harbor, SC. (Thanks to Robert and Diane Hedrick for the suggestion!) http://www.harborwalkmarina.com

Harborwalk is right in downtown Georgetown so plenty of eateries and some boutique shopping. It's also just across the harbor from Hobcaw Barony. They can accommodate us as a group as long as we give them ample notice.  Rate is $1.75 per foot. 30 Amp power $5.00/day, 50 Amp $10 per day.

Schedule:

Driving In:

For those driving, who might want to stay overnight, there is a Hampton Inn, just outside of downtown (http://hamptoninn3.hilton.com/en/hotels/south-carolina/hampton-inn-georgetown-marina-GTNSCHX/index.html)
There are also other choices in Pawleys Island just a short drive north from Georgetown.

I need to get numbers to the marina and Hobcaw as soon as possible. So, if you would like to join us, please email me as soon as possible.

Email Address: ksf@lahey.me
