This year marks the 50th anniversary of Steven Spielberg‘s Jaws, shot in 1974 on location all over the Vineyard to bring to life the fictional Amity Island. To celebrate, the Edgartown Board of Trade is hosting events from June 20th-29th as part of Amity Week.

Every summer since 1977, the Maine Windjammer Association has hosted the Great Schooner Race, providing an opportunity for captains, crews and passengers aboard traditional vessels from all over the Eastern Seaboard to rendezvous for a fun day of racing. Hailed as “the largest annual gathering of traditional schooners in America,” this year at least twenty schooners are expected to participate in the 46th Annual Great Schooner Race scheduled to take place on Friday, July 4th, 2025 in Penobscot Bay. As race day approaches, we will add more information, but for now you can find more information in the race details section.

Celebrate July 4th with music by Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops and special guest stars. 2025 marks the 51st year of the Fireworks Spectacular and Lockhart’s 30th anniversary as Pops conductor. Gates to the Oval lawn in front of the Hatch Shell open at 12 noon, concert begins at 8 pm, and fireworks over the Charles River follow around 10:30 pm. Free and open to the public (no ticket required).
